Wanaka - Day 2

Wanaka - Day 2

Big cook up breakfast this morning to get us going. We're planning a mini-hike/walk to Rippon winery on a hill overlooking the lake.

With plenty of fuel in the tank we drive to the centre of town about 5 minutes away and head down to the lake.

Mandatory morning photos of this thing-of-beauty as we follow it around to the left past the "Wanaka Tree". The sun is beaming yet again and we are shedding layers instantly. Another cracking day in paradise.

We're not 100% sure where the turn off is up the hill to the winery but make a decent stab at it and get there. This is by far the most beautiful setting for a winery we've seen. Let's hope the wines are decent.

They're not, but that's alright, the views more than make up for it! (OK, a bit harsh, we bought 2 bottles and definitely enjoyed them a few nights later)

We walk back down to the lake and have a sandwich and Jeff dips his toes in. So clear and tranquil. Lovely stuff.

Back to the car and off to get fitted for snowboarding for the next day.

From here we are a 5 minute drive to one of the many breweries around the area. A very healthy craft brew scene in these parts, apparently. "Rhyme X Reason" doesn't disappoint!

Time for some food and its back into town to a food-truck lot. It has about 4 semi-permanent trucks set up. Easily one of the best burritos Jeff has ever had. The fried chicken gets the nod of approval as well from Courts.

Down the road we go to where we had breakfast the other night (remember those 16 local beers I was telling you about?). 3 of us are carrying on the party tonight. We're dressed in our purple Freo shirts ready for the semi-final due to start at 9:20pm. A few local beers here then it's off to the sports pub which "will certainly be playing the AFL tonight".

We head there next, find a good spot and settle in. A few Collingwood supporters roll in but not many are here for the footy (as expected).

Freo aren't looking in good shape by half time so we head home. No Ubers and not many taxis in town so we end up walking. We stream the game on the phone as we go. It's a perfectly clear night with a full moon.

We watch the end of the tragic game at home and call it a night. Waaah 🙁
