Vancouver (day 3)

Vancouver (day 3)

We awake and head for a local Bagel place around the corner. The reviews say the food is good, but the service not so. If you like a little bagel with your cream cheese then this place is for you.

We jump on the subway/train for the first time since getting to Van. We head for the city on our way up to Grouse Mountain. This is the closest one that overlooks Vancouver, so we are keen to see what's up there and see some snow. We were preparing for snow on our trip, but none of the cities have been hit so far, so we just have to go and chase it.

We jump on the bus that will take us the next leg through Stanley Park and across Lion's Gate Bridge. It drops us in a small town halfway up the mountain.

We get on the next bus and its full of Aussies who are working the slopes. What a shocker! We get off at the top and realise we'll need to buy a ticket to get to where the snow and fun is. A bit pricey, but we think it'll be worth gt it. We jump on the Skyline and it takes us up the side of the mountain. Straight away we have views of the city and the harbor. Very cool.

8 minutes later and its -4 degrees and we are at a ski resort. Our Airbnb hosts later inform us that this is the smallest of the ski places to go around Vancouver, Whistler obviously being the biggest and best - but also the most expensive.

We wander around for a bit and acclimatise, taking some pics of the views. We jump on the back of the local transport that takes you to different places on the mountain and then jump of and go on the Light Walk. A track set up with lights and music. A bit romantic, but also a little creepy with the "WARNING - sheer drop - thin ice" signs around.

We hire a mini sled and go sledding. Courts watches Jeff do it and stack a few times before realising its semi-safe and gets on board. Jeff gives the kids in the nearby family some good ideas - e.g. do it backwards!

We head inside to dry off and warm up at the bar to soak in the views and plan our next steps and then its back down the mountain.

We aim for some food on Robson street. There are plenty of good Ramen places in this town, so we have to try one out. We head to the highly recommended one and it's on the money. Jeff has plenty of chili to try and ward off whatever Courtney has. It works.

We walk to the other end of the town towards Gastown for another look. Courts is on her last legs so we keep a lid on it and head to a bar with games. We play a couple rounds of Exploding Kittens and have another local brew (F+W IPA from Richmond - the best Jeff's had so far).

We get the train home and sleep well. Another massive day under the belt. Jeff is impressed that Courts has been able to do it with the cold she has. Especially heading up the mountain and playing in the snow. Probably not what the doctor ordered.
