Vancouver (day 2)

Vancouver (day 2)

Courtney wakes up with a cold :( Jeff heads to the nearest drug store and comes back with a fist-full of remedies, including some with actual pseudo. Hooray!

Sure enough Courts is feeling 100% again and we make our way into town for breakfast. We chose the place based on recommendations about the waiter and are not disappointed - very fun guy. We have a baked egg dish each and orange juice. Time to get healthy.

We aim for Stanley Park. A massive nature reserve on the edge of town. We strolled down the main street of Van and wander into a sports shop. Jeff fires off 20 questions to the guy about the history of the local NHL team, the Canucks. We buy a puck since they are cool and cheap.

We get to Stanley Park and start wandering. It's too big to walk the entire way around since we've already walked a fair way, but we start anyway. We talk to a mounted police officer and pat his steed. Despite a name change, Turbo is unfortunately one of the slower horses going around.

We continue along the water, which is crystal clear, even though we are right near a marina and right near a massive city. Very impressive, a testament to the predominant "greeny" culture here. We decide to cut a few corners and head back to town after a few kilometres.

Time for a coffee to keep us going. We head out to Main street out of town. This is a strip with plenty going on, we're told, including a lot of cafes. We head to the most hipster looking one on the map via a bus.

The coffee is good, but as usual, all the good seats are taken by cafe bloggers on their Macs (not even a joke). We knock out a couple days on the travel blog (oh god, are we one of them?) and then start walking back to our airbnb which is a fair hike away. We take a nap so Courts can recover. Jeff sleeps like a baby. Courts reads.

We head back into town on foot after getting Subway for dinner (mission "get healthy" continues). We head to a sports bar in Yale Town to watch the Ducks game. It's pretty quiet since its a Wednesday night, so the bartender takes good care of us and we get to sample more local brews. Ducks Win. Ducks Win.

We walk home and admire the night views of city on the way.
