Portland to Seattle

Rise and shine and time to check-out. We've got a breakfast place lined up back in Alberta district based on internet recommendations. We jump in the Uber with all our gear and get another up-vote from the driver. She loves Pine State Biscuits, so I think we are on a winner. The line up for the place triple-ly confirms this.

We are not disappointed. Fried chicken, egg, cheese and bacon on a biscuit (savoury scone) with gravy, hash and some locally roasted coffee. God damn, that's our eating done for the week.

We start waking towards the last district we wanted to check out - Belmont. We Uber the rest of the way and head for a Cafe to park up and organise some travel stuff. Belmont is not as trendy as Alberta, but still pretty cool. The stroll through the neighbourhoods on the way was pretty cool. Some amazing houses here. And you know it's a friendly town when people are saying high as they are jogging by, sweating their asses off.

We get some good Seattle tips from the waiter and make our way to the train station. A decent hike with all our gear to help work off the biscuits.

The train ride lives up to our expectations. The rain picks up as we head out of Portland through the industrial areas and soon the forests go by - beautiful scenery. We have our last Voodoo donut and soak it in. For those that are fans, think of the town Forks in Twilight and you should get a pretty similar picture if what it looks like.

The trip takes about 3 hours and lobs us in Seattle after dark. We Uber to our AirBnB just out of town, get changed and head straight back in to Downtown.

First impressions of Seattle are that it's more down to business than Portland. It's definitely bigger and has more of a Melbourne feel to it. Not the prettiest place we've seen.

As we're quickly learning, Downtown is rarely the place to be, the districts are where it's at. A few districts were recommended by the Portlandians, but we were warned that they are very far apart. Seattle is not as touritst friendly like that.

We aim for the closest one, Beltown, after having quick and cheap Maccas meal (although, not that cheap. We've noticed all prices are up a lot from our trip 3 years ago).

Beltown has a few cool bars with plenty of arcade and other bar games to keep us entertained. We waste a few dollars on them while trying some local Seattle brews. The first one's were Ok, but it kinda went downhill over the coming days.

We parkup and put together a plan for the next few days and figure out which districts to see. By this time we are thinking it's time to recharge the batteries and so head home for the night.
