Pebble Beach, Silicon Valley and San Jose

Pebble Beach, Silicon Valley and San Jose

We cruise through the town of Monterey this morning, top down, heated seats on. It's a quaint little town with plenty going on. Courts spots some seals so we stop to have a look.

On the map we spot Pebble Beach, the world famous golf course. Definitely worth a look. We head towards it and hit a toll both. $10 to drive the iconic 17-mile road. We pay up and get on our way. Some fancy houses here and great scenery. That's how you know you've made it, when people have to pay money to drive on your road.

There are 3 separate courses on the drive. They all look in immaculate condition and very challenging. We arrive at Pebble Beach and stop in at the pro shop for a snoop around. Very fancy, as expected.

Back on the road we head for GooglePlex, a pretty easy cruise up the freeway towards San Francisco. We arrive and grab a park for "visitors", not to be confused with "tourists". Google isn't really set up for tours yet. You need to know a "Googler" to get a tour, or use the bikes, or eat the food etc. There is a little beta gift shop though with some cool stuff. The whole place feels more like a massive university campus than a company. Very cool.

We cruise around a little longer and spot the usual suspects, Amazon, PayPal etc. Then head for our place in San Jose.

We rock up to a grand old house only a few blocks from Downtown. It's interesting how quickly Downtown becomes suburbia. We check in and head straight out again towards San Pedro Market Square where there are plenty of eating and drinking options. A great spot to pregame before the NHL game tonight.

We aren't alone, every man and his dog is there in their San Jose Sharks getup. Not a bad turn out for a Wednesday night. We sample a few more local California craft beers and have one last (maybe) Mexican meal before heading with the masses to the game.

We walk through a cool district with people everywhere meeting up before the game.

The Sharks are currently top of their division, so we have high hopes. We arrive for the pre-match entertainment and warm ups. It's great to be at the ice hockey again. The Sharks are playing Florida and should make light work of them.

The game is a nailbiter. Plenty of fans leave with 2 mins to go since the score is 3-5. They miss out on an awesome comeback which takes us to overtime. The new rule being that overtime is played with 3 per team in a golden goal scenario. Sharks lose. Sharks lose. The crowd leaves with mixed feelings, happy to have salvaged something.

We Uber to the casino (our first female driver), Jeff plays some poker and grabs a chip for the collection and we head home.
