Overland Track - Day 7 - Echo Point to Lake St Clair

Overland Track - Day 7 - Echo Point to Lake St Clair

No rush today. We're 10 (hopefully) short kilometres away from the end of our journey.

We are up early anyway. 530am after a great sleep. We decide to sit at the end of the jetty and watch the sun rise. It tries its best, and we see some colours appear on the dawn sky. A very special moment of the trek.

We have our last coffee for the trip on the beach and take in the last mountain/lake feels before packing up.

We hit the road by 8:30 and are back in the forest. It's not as trudgy to start with so the going is a bit quicker than last night.

Unfortunately the track is a set a bit away from the lake so we have to settle for the occasional view. That's OK though, because we need to keep concentrating on our feet anyway. Don't want to get complacent on the last leg and break one!

We reflect on the journey as we walk. A week away from the grind and technology in general. It was tough, but surprisingly our bodies adapted well and we feel fit, strong, happy.

We stroll into the the visitor centre at around 12 with Hayden and Cam whooping and hollering. We have a touch of delirium about us.

A little while longer our friends Karina and Amelia arrive and we give them the same treatment.

Of course it's still misty rain, but we got our fair share of sun today as well. We vaguely pack our stuff and we end up giving up on the idea of waiting until Hobart for a celebratory beer. It goes down like a treat. Well earned. 6 happy hikers.

The bus takes us back to Hobart and we check into a proper Bed & Breakfast. A beautiful, massive, old house. We get that long awaited shower done and then its off to the brewery for a burger and beer.  Shambles does NOT disappoint. And not just because we are famished.

Up the road to North Hobart for a night cap and we return to our first bed in over a week.
