New York (day 3)

The plan is to see some news sights today, we've got Coney Island and the Bronx on our mind, which are at opposite ends of Manhattan. We head off early, grab a coffee at hipster coffee shop and head in a different direction on our way to subway, so we can see a little bit more of Brooklyn. We wander through a massive park with dogs running around EVERYWHERE. It's like the cat Cafe but with dogs times 10.

We jump on the subway to Coney Island. The ride out isn't too long and train is pretty quiet, which is to be expected given the main attraction the amusement park, is closed over the winter months. We're pretty happy about that as we want to see it in its creepy closed form, just like in the Warriors and Mr Robot.

We get off at subway and head to a Russian themed Cafe. As we eat, a few more customers come in and are all speaking Russian. Coney Island appears to be the 'Little Russia' of New York.

Next, we wander down the board walk along the beach. It's pretty quiet. We're probably the only tourists there amongst the Russian residents who are busy chatting and snoozing along the board walk. We keep walking until we get to the closed up amusement park. We take some snaps and are pretty satisfied with the level of creep.

On our way back to the subway we stop by a souvenir shop which is actually selling Warrior themed souvenirs! So good. Our nads sufficiently pumped, we jump on the subway to the Bronx. We're going from the bottom of NY to practically the top, so this subways ride is a bit of a long on. We snooze.

We arrive at the Bronx and directly across the station is Yankee stadium. Baseball season hasn't started yet, but there's people coming and going from the stadium, must be people who work for the Yankees, as we're told there aren't any tours of the stadium until April. Darn. We do a lap around the stadium and meet up with Caleb and Johanna. We head off and wander around the Bronx for a bit, looking for somewhere to lunch.

The Bronx isn't what you'd call a tourist destination, it's pretty rough and real and the accents are totally different up here. And there's dog shit everywhere.

We pick a pizza joint for lunch because the slices are humongous and the place is pretty busy. We choose a few different options, some better than others. We continue our walk until we reach the subway.

We hop on and head back down to lower Manhattan. We stop by a bar and have a couple of pints and play a few games, beforehand heading to the ice hockey.

We take the subway to Madison Square Garden, where the New York Ranges are hosting the Washington Capitals. Our seats are pretty high up, but this is the type of stadium where there are no bad seats. Interesting fact, just the night before, there was a game of basketball played at the stadium. Apparently they just pop the ice rink over the top of the court when the hockey is on. The pre-game stuff is pretty good, all sorts of cool lights and animations on the ice - they went all out on the projectors here - as do the crowd for the goal celebrations. The beers are big and expensive and Rangers lose. Rangers lose.

We're all starving after the game so we head off for some food. We end up in Hells Kitchen at a fancy looking burger joint called 5 Napkins. I guess it's called that because of the amount of sauce they slather on. You know it's too much when Courts isn't enjoying it. We say good night to our mates and head off on our respective subways the bed.
