New York (day 2)

New York (day 2)

We rise a little later today, feeling about $3.50, we must still be on West Coast time.

We head straight for the nearest Chipotle in Brooklyn. We wander down Atlantic Avenue, which is one of the main ones with plenty to see. The weather is great for walking, not ridiculously cold for the first time in a while.

After a feed we aim for the Brooklyn Cat Cafe (yes, it's a thing). We get there as its opening and surprise-surprise it stinks in there. The place is crawling with cats! Luckily they are all cute, friendly and want to play. All of the cats are up for adoption and it's run by a USA RSPCA equivalent. We hang out there for half an hour before heading on towards the Brooklyn Heights Promenade.

This walk takes us through some of the more posh parts of Brooklyn, culminating at the promenade where we have a perfect view of lower Manhattan.

We decide we are feeling like walking still and head for the Brooklyn Bridge. A much better day to appreciate it than last time when it was well below 0 degrees.

We wander over the bridge, dodge the crowds and enter Manhattan. We wander past the Court House again and keep walking North, without a real destination in mind. There are many parks and cool streets/avenues to look at to keep us amused. The standard hustle and bustle of the humming city is a spectacle in itself for us.

We sit in one of the parks (maybe Maddison Square Park) and hang with the squirrels. It's nice not having any time pressures or things on our list to tick off.

Our legs are starting to feel it - we've clocked up 15kms by this point, but we keep walking. We're sort of aiming for Central Park, knowing it will be a stretch.

We head past the public library (Day After Tomorrow) and into Bryant Park which currently has an ice rink setup which is being well enjoyed.

The lights of Time Square draw us in. Even in the day time it's an impressive beast. We sit and admire the place with a chili dog.

It's starting to get dark so we continue up towards Central Park, stopping by the Rockefeller Center and the HBO shop. We realise that we're still quite a few blocks away and the night is going to beat us. Plus we've clocked up nearly 20kms and our legs are spent. Poor babies, travel is too hard.

We decide to head back to Brooklyn and have an early night to make sure we get onto East Coast time. We sleep to the soothing sounds of "Give me back my rubber ducky. I waaant my ruubbber duuuucky!" and other such hollering down below. Ah, Brooklyn.
