Malibu / Santa Barbara / Monterey

After not having slept for close to 24 hours, we wake up feeling fresh as daises. We're headed for Monterey and the plan is to take the pacific coastal highway route, we've heard it's quite the scenic delight.

First stop along the route is Malibu. We stop in at a Cafe for a yummy breakfast. The standard massive American serving size means we won't be needing lunch! Next we take a snoop around the Malibu neighbourhood. Massive mansions hanging over the coast line, very cool, very rich.

We carry on until we hit Santa Barbara. We cruise around the coast of the town for a bit, it has a bit of a ranch / coastal type vibe. Sweet little town. We head for the hills, we wanna see the view from the top. We do, it's wicked.

The drive up to Monterey isn't too far, which is good news for us as we stumble across a wine region along the way. Should have realised, the landscape was screaming wineries. We stop in at Vincent's winery, a relatively new winery that grows and uses all its own grapes. We getting chatting with the guy serving the tastings and he let's us try basically everything (well Courts does, Jeff is DD). Considering how new the winery is, the wines were pretty expensive. The reds were nowhere near as good as SA's finest, of course.

The scenery for the rest of the drive is basically rolling hillsides, not what you'd expect for a coastal drive through California! We get back on the road and after a few gas and coffee stops, we arrive in Monterey. We check into the Best Western and head out to dinner to a brew pub/grill restaurant that also sells its craft brews. We have dinner, beers in mugs as big as Jeff's and tasting flights for dessert. Stupidly full, we meander back to the hotel and hit the hay.
