Iguazu Falls, Argentina
Arrived into Iguazu around 10am, both feeling pretty good.
Had some breakfast, dropped our bags in a locker and jumped on the first bus headed to the falls (the Argentina side).
We were there shortly after and hiked it straight to the main attraction. Our first sights of the falls were postcard worthy. Incredible to see. Plus there were animals everywhere. Little goannas (we think) and Coaits (spell check..) which were like little bandicoots/possums/aardvarks) that were very tame. Don't pat them though!
We had a boat ride booked which takes you for a close up. Very. Close. Up. We had to put all our stuff in a water proof bag. The ride went for about 20 mins and took us underneath one of the falls. Everyone was screaming and cheering. It was very intense. I wondered why Courtney wasn't cheering and yelling. She was too busy trying not to drown in the waterfall mist apparently, just having a quiet panic attack. Poor thing. Very funny though.
We dried off and set off for the lookout over the top of the falls. The main section called Garganta Del Diablo (Devil's Throat). A quick train ride and a long walk over the river on a bridge (again, animals everywhere) and we were there. All I could say was "wow" . None of the photos or videos can do it justice. You can't see the bottom because there is just white mist everywhere. We stayed and watched the water fall of the edge of the world for a while. Birds were having a ball hanging out on the side of the cliff and darting out into the mist for a shower. If I was a bird, that's exactly what I'd be doing as well.
We headed back on the train. And back to get our bags from Puerto Iguazu. Now we wanted to stay on the Brazilian side of the border because it's cheaper and a bit nicer. So on another short bus through immigration (easy as) and hey presto - we are in Brazil!
Found a decent looking hostel (it had a pool, sold). 2 Heinekens and a dip in the pool and we are feeling human again.
Got some Chinese food for dinner. Obviously it has nothing on Gouger street, but it did the job.
Back home to out first bed in 48 hours. Slept like a log.
