Divundu, Namibia

We set off early from Maun and continue our journey Westward. We will be entering Namibia today.

As we progress the roads become progressively worse. Tar giving way to dirt in some places. Towns become less frequent. They are more like villages. In some cases a few makeshift sheds with a makeshift fence around them. Hard to understand how people can live out here amongst the vast nothingness.

We cross the border into Namibia. Jeff's Liverpool shirt continues to be a conversation starter. Africa is soccer mad and many follow the English Premier League, in particular, Liverpool.

The roads become horrible at this point. We bounce around in the truck. For some reason we hang a righty. A few more bumpy kilometres later and things start becoming green again. We spot our lodge for the night and it's on the banks of the Kavango River. The first thing we spot is the "Danger, Crocs" sign. How wonderful.

We set up camp and jump on a river cruise to get a feel for the place. We head upstream to the Popa Falls. Along the way we spot the biggest croc of our trip. He is hanging out on the banks about 1km from our campsite. Our boat gets close and he jumps in the water. Very cool.

We get out of the boat and wander around the small falls. We see a cute little otter.

We head down stream and pass a large family of hippos hanging in the middle of the river, doing their thing.

We continue on past a ferry service consisting of a guy in a small canoe which is barely river-worthy.

He is taking a couple of blokes across the river with this trip, a load of fire wood the next time.

We continue on to another large pod of hippos and watch then as the sun goes down. Nearby a group of guys are doing their washing in the river. It's funny how much of a big deal this is for us, but for them, this is just where they do their washing.

We head back to our camp. $30 well spent. We make use of the first useable Internet in days and prepare for more nature loving tomorrow when we reach Etosha National Park.
