Cape Town, South Africa - Woodstock, Long St
We've been enjoying Cape Town so much and because there's heaps to do, we decide to stay a day longer. This means we need to check out of our loft and into new accommodation. We check out mid-morning and aren't able to hit up the new place until the afternoon, so we park up at a Cafe nearby and order breakfast and endless coffees for the next few hours.
Before we leave for our new digs, we meet up with our friend from home, Caleb, who has just rolled into town after experiencing practically the same over landing journey as us. We trade stories over more drinks, then head to our new accommodation.
After dropping our bags and freshening up, the three of us head to Woodstock, where we've read about an interactive detective game you can play as a group, called Hint Hunt. We're hoping it'll be just like an episode of Law and Order. We roll into the complex, called the Biscuit Mill. It looks very mill-like. We head to Hint Hunt and are informed that we needed to book, we've just missed the last investigation for the day.
We decide to make the most of our trip out here and wander around till we find somewhere to eat. Back to the Fat Cactus we go.
We walk back to the city through the Company Gardens. The gardens are very pretty with lots of girly flowers, ducks and cats! These were the first formal gardens of Cape Town dedicated to growing fruit, vegetables and other plant life.
We stop by the apartment for a quick rest then it's off to dinner with Caleb's new friends from his tour group. We eat (mostly drink) at a place called Beerhouse in Long Street. Beerhouse boasts 99 different bottles of beer, plus another 20 on tap. We're in beer heaven, until we remember only 1 in 5 of the SA craft beers are any good. We try about a million just to be sure.
Throughout the night we've noticed a number of the patrons wearing headphones, like they're listening to their own silent disco. Seems a little anti-social we think. Kids today, sigh (it's a Thursday night and the place has quite a uni night kind of vibe to it).
After dinner, we get chatting with a girl at the bar who explains that the headphones are in fact a silent disco. She takes us around the corner where the dance floor is filled with people singing at the top of their lungs, to music we can't hear. It's really weird, we want in. We grab ourselves a pair of headphones and hit the d-floor. We quickly realise there are two DJs vying for our attention, just hit a button to tune in to the DJ who's playing the better song. It's a lot of fun. We head home and crash around 2am.
