Cape Town, South Africa - Lion's Head, Cape Point, Franschhoek

We rise bright and early and a little dusty from the beer sampling the night before. Best cure is to climb Lion's Head, we think. So off we go.
This hike is shorter and easier than Table Mountain, but it should have an awesome view of Table Mountain since it's right next to it.
It's a perfect day and the hike is manageable. The best part is the small bit of rock-climbing required. There are hand and foot steps provided, so not too tough, but great fun.
We reach the top. It's a good workout. The views are stunning. Plenty of selfies with Caleb with the mountain as a backdrop.
Time to leave this great city. We pack and say our goodbyes and pick up our rental car from Hertz. A VW (of course) Polo.
The sun is out and we have an open road in front of us. It's great to be in control of our own destiny. We decide to head down to the Capes (Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope) which are the most South-Westerly points of Africa.
We go via Camp's Bay (richville on the beach) and Chapman's Peak. Some spectacular coastline to start our road trip from Cape Town to Durban.
We get to the Capes and get out to have a look. We are nearly blown over its so windy. The seas look wild.
We are interested in spotting some baboons that are said to patrol down here, so we drive around some of the quieter stop offs in the national park. Before long we spot one - no, two - no, heaps! They are right next to the car and not really interested in us. A few of them have a vicious fight on the road right in front of us. We wind our windows up even further. They're pissing everywhere.
Having got what we came here for we figured it was time to aim for our destination for the night, Franschhoek, which is another wine town slightly further on than the iconic Stellenbosch. On all accounts it's a classier town with less of a uni vibe, so we thought we'd posh it up and stay in a manor.
We arrive on sunset and manor is almost an understatement. The place is stunning and we instantly feel out-of place as we drag our backpacks out of the car. Wolfgang, our host is very nice and relaxed though and shows us to our quarters. A massive room with an open fireplace. Time to don the robe and slippers!
We head to the main street to grab a quick bite so we can return and enjoy the place. Like the rest of the town, the restaurant array is impressive. We step into a butcher by day, restaurant by night kinda place. The menu is full of posh dishes. They have really tried hard with this one. Half were a hit, half were a miss. Maybe our palates aren't refined enough yet.
We return to the manor and retire for the evening. The next morning we are treated to freshly cooked breakfast omelets and the best crossiant we've ever had. So this is how the other half live...
