Boston to Denver
We're up and running on about 2 hours sleep. We leave to get the airport at the same time as the Pernix guys who have a flight 1 earlier than ours. They are running a bit late on account of needing a bit of help getting one of the crew to wake up!
We are walking like zombies at this point but are lucky enough to get exit row seats for a two-parter to Denver. First stop Chicago. A quick stop there and then back onwards to Denver.
We gain a few hours and arrive at about 3pm local. We get an Uber to our (cheap) hotel. We are amazed at how spaced out everything is on the drive in. Apparently the government got the land cheap for the airport, and that's why its so far away.
Our hotel is in a great location, despite not being the prettiest thing. We drop our bags and set out on foot towards downtown.
Denver looks like a town that is in the middle of receiving a major facelift. There are still plenty of elements of the old, Mid-west feel - but then there is also a newness, and a freshness about it. It's very clean and well laid out.
We aim for the main street (16th) and start wandering. We see a cool looking Mexican place called Illegal Pete's. We are absolutely starving and a big burrito sounds like it will be a life-saver. The girl starts making Courtney's and we are both looking at each other like "Umm, steady on, you won't be able to wrap it if you add any more!". Sure enough, she needs 2 tortillas to get the job done. It's the biggest burrito I've ever seen by far!
Sure enough, neither of us quite finish it. We roll out with a new found energy, which is quickly followed by a food and lack-of-sleep coma.
We walk the length of downtown as the sun goes down. It's a warm and lazy Sunday night in Denver, so we take the jackets off - a bit of a gear change from Boston. The local NHL team, the Avalanche are playing - they are firmly at the bottom of the table. There are still lots of shirts going around though. Denver is lucky to have each of the Big 4 (NBA, NHL, MLB, NFL) teams here and each of the stadiums in walkable locations.
We finish our lap of the town and make our way home. We need an early night and to get our plans sorted for our next 2 days in Denver since it's a town we know very little about. Can't wait to get out there and see something tomorrow.
